Prince William might have dashed the England women's football team's hopes of meeting Prince George but the squad DID get to met footballing royalty.
After being treated to breakfast at Kensington Palace with Prince William, the squad were lucky enough to meet David Beckham at Wimbledon.
It came after the team couldn't resist tweeting out a snap of themselves to their thousands of followers while they were enjoying breakfast at Kensington Palace.
But in the background is none other than Prince William, chatting to one of the guests, completely unaware of the photo being taken.
The father-of-two hosted the breakfast to celebrate the team's achievement in the World Cup.
And he told the team, who won the bronze medal in the World Cup, "you showed the men how to do it.”
William, who is president of the Football Association, said: “You showed the men how to do it - I really mean it.”
He also told the team that the country had been supporting them while they were away, saying: “You really gave it your all, and everybody here noticed it - social media was alive with it.
William said he was “proud” and went on: “What you created as a team - it’s fantastic. You’re only going to get bigger and better.”
He added to laughs from players: “Now the pressure really starts.”
William joked about his son, Prince George, telling the team “I was going to bring George this morning”, and when they let out a collective sigh of disappointment he said the toddler was playing with his toy plane.
One of England’s most senior players, Casey Stoney, dismissed the row over a tweet from the official England FA Twitter account, criticised on social media as sexist, which welcomed the players back earlier this week with the words: “Our lionesses go back to being mothers, partners and daughters today, but they have taken on another title - heroes.”
The former England captain said: “I find it incredible that someone would find that sexist.
“When I came back to this country was I a mum? Yes. Was I a daughter? Yes.
“To me it was black and white, just facts, and to be called a hero is amazing.”
After the reception the footballers met shool children involved in the FA Skills Programme at the Royal Household Club pitch.
Meanwhile, William visited the Imperial War Museum Duxford, Cambridgeshire to receive a newly restored Supermarine Spitfire Mark I N3200 on behalf of the museum.
